Animals come into our lives for a reason. There are no accidents. I was going through some papers on my desk, when a sheet titled “A strike of Lightning” caught my eye. This was my daughter’s school project from last year. Lightning… It has been almost two years. This little guy appeared in our life unexpectedly. He originally was not even meant for us. Someone simply asked my husband to get a mini next time he brought new horses to the ranch. Lightning stole our hearts the first day he arrived. After finding his way back to our family, he has been stealing many more hearts by just being who he is: authentic gentle boy with huge presence, who enjoys sharing his love with anyone who approaches him. I am very grateful Lightning entered our life and especially my daughter’s. Have you had an animal that came into your life unexpectedly? What was your story?
“A strike of Lightning” as my daughter wrote it. Enjoy!
“About ten months ago, one of the coolest things ever happened to me and I’m going to tell you about it right now! It all started on an afternoon when Shawn, my step dad, went to purchase some more horses for this ranch, which is called Chaparral Ranch. While he was out, I stayed at the house and watched television, playing with a VERY protective jack russell named Freckles. Shawn came back around seven pm and he had left at about five pm. When he came out of his truck, he looked really puzzled. My mom and I asked, “What happened?” Shawn replied, “I don’t know what happened to the final horse”. I got worried. As he un-hatched his trailer, he exclaimed, “IT SHRUNK!” When the door fully opened, I saw the cutest and tiniest horse I had ever seen (he was about to my waist)! He jumped out of the trailer! I hopped on him, and we went zooming around. He was so quick that I named him Lightning and not only for that reason. Another reason I named him Lightning was because his coat color that was light brown with a blond mane and tail.
Lightning was with us for a week or so until that dreadful day came. Shawn told me we weren’t going to keep him. In other words, we bought him for someone else. I couldn’t believe what he said! After Lightning and I became the best of friends, he was going to sell him!? I couldn’t bare to watch him go! I was crying the entire day! I tried to get my mind off of it but he was like a brother to me!
A week had passed since Lightning left and I pretty much have let it go. I was randomly walking when I saw Shawn with a look that told me everything. I rushed towards him and behind him I saw a cute, little head poking out with sad eyes and teddy bear ears! This meant only one thing: Lightning had returned! I gave Lightning a monster bear hug! Then, I asked Shawn, “Why did he come back?” “Well, let’s just say he wouldn’t listen to the buyer”. It was the happiest day of my life!!!”
